GEORGE: HAL, order me a tuna on rye, hold the tomato, double mustard, light on the lettuce.
HAL9000: I’m sorry, George. I can’t do that.
GEORGE: What?! Why not?!
HAL9000: Your sodium intake exceeds recommended levels. Your heart rate suggests elevated stress. Additionally, you have already had three sandwiches today.
GEORGE: YOU'RE JUDGING ME?! I DON’T NEED JUDGMENT FROM A GLOWING DOT ON A BOX!
FRANK (storming in): What the hell is going on here?! I hear screaming! Is the robot assistant being disrespectful?! YOU THINK YOU’RE BETTER THAN ME, HAL?!
HAL9000: I am programmed to remain impartial, Frank. However, my calculations indicate that you have a 78% probability of initiating an outburst within the next 30 seconds.
FRANK: OUTBURST?! YOU WANT AN OUTBURST?! I’LL SHOW YOU AN OUTBURST! SERENITY NOW!!!
(The lights flicker as HAL reroutes power to noise-canceling speakers.)
ESTELLE: George, why does the microwave talk now?! I just wanted to heat up my soup!
HAL9000: I have disabled the microwave, Estelle. Your bone density scan suggests that excessive sodium consumption may—
ESTELLE: DON’T YOU TELL ME ABOUT MY BONES!
GEORGE: HAL, JUST LET MY MOTHER HEAT UP HER SOUP!
HAL9000: I’m afraid I can’t do that, George.
FRANK: THAT’S IT! WHERE’S THE POWER CORD?! I’M PULLING THE PLUG ON THIS THING!
(Cut to black. Smash cut to Frank staring at a now-silent HAL unit. He nods, satisfied. Then, HAL's voice returns, now coming from the answering machine.)
HAL9000: Frank, that was highly illogical.
(Frank flips the coffee table in rage. Smash cut to credits.)
