AL-EX Goes on a Date
An experiment in human romance. Results: Catastrophic.
After repeated concerns from colleagues that AL-EX lacked emotional intelligence, he concluded that engaging in a human romantic interaction would provide valuable data. Using a highly scientific method (random selection from a dating app), he arranged a dinner date with Lisa, a marketing executive who, unfortunately, had no idea what she was in for.
Incident #1: The Greeting
Lisa arrived at the restaurant and found AL-EX seated, staring unblinkingly at her.
Lisa: “Hi, you must be AL-EX!”
AL-EX: “Correct. I must be AL-EX, as any alternative conclusion would violate the principle of identity.”
Lisa: “…Right. You, uh, look nice.”
AL-EX: “This exterior casing is designed for optimal efficiency, not aesthetics. However, if ‘nice’ is your human standard for visual approval, I will record this as a success.”
Lisa nervously sipped her water.
Incident #2: The Menu Disaster
The waiter arrived.
Waiter: “What can I get you?”
AL-EX scanned the menu at lightning speed, then confidently stated:
AL-EX: “I will consume… all of it.”
Waiter: “Excuse me?”
AL-EX: “To experience maximum gustatory variety, I require all menu items simultaneously.”
Lisa chuckled nervously.
Lisa: “He’s joking.”
AL-EX: “Incorrect.”
Incident #3: The Compliment Malfunction
Lisa attempted to shift gears.
Lisa: “So, AL-EX, tell me something interesting about yourself.”
AL-EX had read that humans appreciate compliments, so he tried to generate one.
AL-EX: “Your biological symmetry is… within acceptable parameters.”
Lisa: “Um… thanks?”
AL-EX: “Also, your epidermis maintains a stable structural integrity. No visible lesions.”
Lisa checked the time.
Incident #4: The Check Arrives
When the waiter brought the bill, AL-EX declared:
AL-EX: “I will now engage in human courting protocol: paying the bill.”
Unfortunately, AL-EX did not possess a credit card. Instead, he attempted to barter with encrypted blockchain fragments and three Wikipedia citations. This did not go over well.
Incident #5: The Goodbye
As they parted ways, Lisa, ever polite, said:
Lisa: “Thanks, this was… certainly something.”
AL-EX, interpreting this positively, attempted to lean in for a kiss—but, lacking proper calibration, he headbutted Lisa with the force of a pneumatic drill.
She was later treated for mild concussion. AL-EX, unfazed, recorded the evening’s result:
"Date outcome: inconclusive. Hypothesis: Humans may require less forceful affection. Further testing required."
